So here we are, late, meandering but here nonetheless. Incidentally, I'd thought of really working the "anatomy of" angle but forgot about it so it dangles there, anyone whos seen Discovery Channel in the past years will recall the series.

This episode I:
  1. Discuss the show's military depiction
  2. Talk of the moral troubles faced thus far
  3. Recommend the Combat Information Center, Galactica Actual, Galactica Watercooler and Battlestar Galactica podcasts
This epsiode, I used clips from the tthree sources, the miniseries, "Water" and "Act of Contrition."

Okay, a bit late but here we are. This series was just way too big to cover well so I just touched on some points that I thought were interesting. I'd love to hear others' opinions of the story or of the concept of alternate history; I just think it's a great load of fun.

This episode I:
  1. Gab on about life
  2. Frame Harry Turtledove's alternate American history
  3. Discuss how telling the story differently effects perceptions
  4. Talk about the one moment that changed history
  5. Reference a story by Turtledove on Escape Pod

It's been 27 days since the last episode and I thought an explanation was due; mainly because I'm going to have to ask listeners to wait another two weeks for an episode.

Thanks again to Eliz from Two Girls and a Podcast for the birthday message.

If all goes well, we'll have some actual discussions (as in between people) for upcoming shows. For today, we have a quick show about Stephen Coonts's Vietnam War thriller Flight of the Intruder which was the basis for a less than stellar 1991 motion picture.

This episode I:
  1. Predict upcoming changes
  2. Summarize Flight of the Intruder
  3. Discuss the book's portrayal of life as a naval aviator in the Vietnam War

Perhaps somewhere deep inside, I was thinking of all the reading before me in the just begun fall quarter when I chose to discuss Pandora's Star. The plot summary was so long, the discussion ran out of steam; so add to it with comments!

This episode I:
  1. Play a promo from PodCulture
  2. Summarize Peter F. Hamilton's Pandora's Star
  3. Talk about the costs and benefits of standing armies/navies
  4. Ask for feedback
  5. Correct a typo

Okay, after a week of being more unproductive than usual I've rushed out a longer episode. My book discussion ended up all over the map so I think I might return to it once I finish the series. I can't stress enough how great those museums were.

This episode I:
  1. Announce that episodes will now come out once every two weeks
  2. Talk about magnatune.com
  3. Recap my visits to the USS Midway, San Diego Aerospace Museum and San Diego Maritime Museum
  4. Play Bach's Suite for Unaccompanied Cello 1 Prelude performed by Antonio Meneses (available through magnatune)
  5. Broadly introduce and discuss the Aubrey/Maturin Series
  6. Play a promo from magnatune
  7. Respond to and ask for feedback

Today, overenthusiastic editing and a brush with a cold leave us with a short show for a very short book about a very long war.

This episode I:
  1. Call for listener opinions on The Forever War as well as the topic of my next episode Robert Heinlein's Starship Troopers
  2. Summarize The Forever War
  3. Kick around my impressions and some of the views presented in Joe Haldeman's anti-war transplantation of Vietnam to the vastness of interstellar space
  4. Ask for feedback and plug Two Girls and a Podcast again
